The other week, the news that Shift, the Canadian computer and culture magazine, was going to be issuing its last issue (encountered via BoingBoing). I picked up today's Now (free weekly with what's happening around the city), and found a freebie copy of Shift in it, replete with invitations to subscribe.

So what's happening? Was this a quick way of getting rid of all the unsold copies of Shift? A desperate ploy to get enough last-minute subscribers to rescue the ailing magazine? Has the magazine been saved and is now in desperate need of subscriptions to justify the investment?
