Fishy Circumstances

DB continued

I've had a productive if somewhat irrelevant morning. I spent the time efficiently running online errands. Well, mush tasks, anyways. But they were all things that needed doing and, more to the point, I scheduled my morning for just such a purpose so, even if it's not "real" work, at least I successfully set a goal and accomplished it. Hurray for me.

I haven't heard anything back from the person to whom I submitted that conference paper proposal. A 'I've received it, you'll here back in 2 months' would make me plenty happy at the moment, just to set my mind at ease about email successfully finding its intended home.

This afternoon I'm going to try to see if Filemaker Pro will do. It doesn't begin to have the db power that going with SQL would - but on the other hand, I wouldn't have to spend a while writing my own interface for it. And the sooner I get around to doing real work the better. I'll see how I can do with it today. So that's the goal for the rest of today.

Tomorrow I'm off to the libaries on campus for an hour or two to nab some material for the professor for whom I've been RAing this year. Shouldn't take too long. Somewhere at home I have my hours sheet for that job. I just wish I knew where it was so I could be paid for it.... Hmm.

Concert

I admit, I was impressed. The concert this afternoon/evening was really good. Cliff Richards playing with 7 Club Seven? Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Joe Cocker, Tom Jones, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Ben Elton, Kermit the Frog, Lenny Henry, the Corrs, Annie Lennox - I can't even remember them all. Even if you don't like any given artist, it's hard not to be impressed by the sheer scale of it all.

And the fireworks afterwards were spectacular: Buckingham Palace spilling over with fireworks. I like spectacles as long as they're positive, regardless of who commissions them or in whose honor their held. That's one good thing to be said for monarchies: they can be the source of some pretty good spectacles.

I'm pleased with today. The mush errands were successfully accomplished this morning, and took up much less time than they often would. My database looks pretty now (interface-wise) and is much more useful. Still need to do some more search-type-experiments to determine if it really is the software for me. The concert was good, I successfully watched it WHILE getting work done, I tried a lovely new mushroom-and-alcohol pasta sauce for dinner and have a guest coming over for tomorrow night. All in all, a successful day.

(no subject)

I give in. If I'm going to be reading other LJ entries regularly, I may as well save myself the microscopic quantities of additional effort required and just add 'em to the heavily unused (in my case) 'Friends' page.

Good note: I did hear back from the person to whom my conference paper was submitted. I'll know within a month or so.
