Fishy Circumstances

Somwhere out there

I'm looking for a job. Sure, I still have to finish writing my dissertation, learn more Latin, finish teaching this course, and write a few conference papers. I'm intending to finish writing by May. But in the meantime, I'm looking. The complication is that I'm looking to move to anywhere in the EU.

I have some relevant language skills, but odds are good that I will need to study a great deal more in the way of language before I'm well-qualified for many of these positions. I can chat a bit in Italian, scrape by in conversational French, and ask for directions in German. Oh, and my Latin improves regularly, but that won't help me negotiate for lunch or an apartment. Reading is easier, but I am close to fluency in none of them. Still, my major incentive in going is to finally have a competent grasp of some language other than English.

I'd also love a chance to do some archival research. My dissertation needed to be completable within the length of my degree, and so I designed it to not require archival work. After all this time working with sources in reproduction and a large proportion of secondary sources, I would like to work with some of the originals.

What am I looking for? Funding for research or a lectureship anywhere in the EU, preferably near a city where C. would stand a chance at finding employment. This time, he doesn't need a work visa. If you have any good ideas, let me know.
