Fishy Circumstances

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you celebrating it today!

One of the wonderful things about living in Canada and having the occasional Christmas in the UK is that it feels as if I get three Thanksgivings a year, spaced out every 4-6 weeks in the fall and early winter. I tempted to continue to celebrate all three of them, regardless of where I end up living, since Thanksgiving food is some of my very favorite: the sweets of sweet potatoes and squashes and cranberries, corn, the rich herbs in the savory dishes. Turkey is one of my favorite meats, and I love fruit pies.

This year features a bonus meal: I get to have two American Thanksgiving meals in two days, plus a trip to the Food and Wine Show to celebrate a season of eating. The goodness of being with friends, trying new foods, and celebrating will help make up for the desolate coldness which has settled on the city in the form of hard frost, a tolerable followup to yesterday's melange of snow, sleet, rain, and cold puddles.
