Fishy Circumstances

Destinations: Worcester Shrub Park, Bregna, Corner Store

WSP: Doris-the-computer was quite convinced that our train was going to Worcester Shrub Park on Friday night. She told us so over three or four complete sets of announcements. Her insistance wasn't misplaced: our train wasn't going anywhere, with a broken-down freight train monopolizing two of the three rails between Didcot Parkway and Reading. Worcester Shrub Park might well be a rather dull destination for all I know, but it sounded so funny in the midst of a contemplative wait, time unknown, in the dark of railway obscurity.

Bregna: It was so odd to see a relaxed blonde Charlize Theron on stage tonight (and clips of Frances McDormand from North Country) at tonight's BAFTAs, after seeing both in other incarnations in the decent-but-not-better Aeon Flux this afternoon. In another miracle of last minute coordination, I had the pleasure of oursin's company for today's movie-going expedition. The movie was very solidly a creature of its genre, and fairly satisfying for that. Back at the BAFTAs, meanwhile, I was delighted to see the Wallace and Gromit movie win best British Film!

Corner Store: C. and I have been a sad pair lately. He's down with a cold and I'm still limping slightly (but I'm so much better than I was a few days ago!) As a consequence, there has been no grocery shopping in our recent past. We had takeaway food from Rotisserie Jules for the first time in a long, long while (still tasty), and I popped a bag of the only kind of popcorn I could find at Waitrose. I'll need a different grocery store to buy "normal" popcorn. Our local corner store has provided our lunches. Tomorrow, however, a grocery store expedition awaits.

Also, my first experience with pomegranate juice was not a promising one, even for a juice aficionado such as myself: Pomegreat tasted like vitamin-fortified Kool-Aid. This might explain why it's popular among some crowds, or it might explain why I should try a different brand of juice.
