When I know I will be having particularly good food or drink in the next day or so, I need to work on keeping the following in mind:
- Avoid too-hot liquids, whether soups, infusions, or hot chocolate. Hot chocolate is dangerous.
(Unless it's actually cold chocolate, as mysteriously served to me for breakfast one morning in a cozy little pot designed for hot things. Then it's odd, but not dangerous in the same way. Also, the hot chocolate was very welcome after several hours of walking up and down hills, climbing up past a waterfall, and otherwise day-hiking in generally steady drizzle in the Black Forest. It's my own fault I drank it too soon.)
- Avoid aggressively crusty rolls.
I had a Thüringer sausage at the Leipzig train station, with a token bun for eating it. The bun, although clearly fresh, had such a crust that it ripped up my mouth to the point of bleeding. Crusty rolls are dangerous.
