Small things

There are snowflakes in the air, but I don't expect any more accumulation.

For once, Mitsy's did a good chocolate topping for their pancake: chocolate truffle, with brandied apricots, cherries, whipped cream, maple syrup, and a chocolate-dipped cherry. It was all quite nice. At least as charming was listening to the two women at the next table talk. One gushed about feminist highlights of the Renaissance: women teaching physics, women beginning to start cross-dressing, Francis Bacon presiding over witch trials and founding the Royal Society. I was delighted they were having such a converation: wrong in so many details, but right enough in its general gist, and good that they were talking about it at all.

The Drake Hotel opens today. We've been watching the construction on this building for the last several years. I stopped by this afternoon, but nothing was open yet. Since I've no intention of going to their sold-out opening night concert, perhaps tomorrow would be a better first day to check it out. I was half hoping they would do receptions and tours today, but if they're going to, it'll be an evening affair.

I turned in another partial chapter draft yesterday! Hurray!
