Excellent news! Is this your lit survey, or one of the "core" technical chapters? Either way, it's a serious milestone. And having written one chapter, it makes it much easier to write another.

Don't get dispirited if it comes back from supervisor with red ink all over it. This is absolutely normal. You'd need to worry more if there wasn't red ink all over it.

How did it feel, dropping it on the supervisor's desk?

It's one of my core chapters. I've already written substantial drafts of the other core chapters, but this was the first one I'd revised, expanded, and edited into what it ought to be. In the process, I pretty much tore apart most of what the draft initially was, and I'd learned so much more about the topic in the meantime that it was a substantially different creature than it began as. I think it's a pretty good chapter, other than that I'm missing key elements which should have been there, but I ran out of time to put together for him - such as all the images which are a central element of my argument.

Alas, turning it in depressed me, since I was doing so in order to have a committee meeting today, and turning it in made me acknowledge the fact that I'd only done a quarter of what my supervisor asked me to do before this meeting - and it was still missing all the pictures. On the bright side, I think I now have a much more realistic idea of what I'm capable of accomplishing in how much time.

Congrats
Woo, and possibly even hoo.

I know you're glum about not having four chapters, complete with pictures, to turn in, but don't undercut the very real accomplishment that turning in this chapter is. It's distinctly yay-worthy!

*Yay!*
