Beware the footwear

ultrascichick, anti-sandal campaigner, will appreciate a detail included in a poorly-typed-up version of the Rule of St. Benedict through which I was reading this afternoon:

"Owing to the sandals which are wont to spring up, the morning and evening office should, plainly, never end unless the Lord's Prayer is said...so that...they may cleanse themselves of failings of this kind."

(My ellipses don't even misrepresent the elided text!)

I've been Benedicting too.

We're not really supposed to wear sandals ir flip flops on tv masses. This rule kind of goes by the wayside, though ... And of course they're biblical: I think it was Bart Simpson who complained, "Why do we have to wear church shoes anyway? Jesus wore sandals."

And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to shut up while I'm ahead ...

Re: relatedly
As long as you end with the Lord's Prayer, you will be cleansed no matter what footwear you have on on tv masses, apparently.

HAH! I'll keep that in mind next time I want to wear flip flops to sing for the university president ...
