As I write, the last few pages of my hourglasses chapter is printing. It's the first chapter draft I'm proud of, and I'm turning it in today!

I feel happy, relaxed, productive, and ready to start writing one of the two chapters I don't even have a rough draft of yet today.

I met with my advisor to go over job things this morning, and turned in my chapter while there. I told him how I was happy with my writing, and he gently reprimanded me: he's rather have me be finished than writing nicely-written chapters. Of course, ideally I can have both. At least one of my chapters will be respectable, and I have reasonable hopes that the rest may yet be too.

This is excellent news - well done!

I remember when I finished my first draft chapter, gave it to my supervisor and got an encouraging and positive email message back - for the first time I really believed (rather than just hoped) that I was going to get through the PhD. I thought ``OK, so I can write one chapter - I just have to do that another five or six times and then that's it.'' And it was - although some of the details kept surprising me right up to (and long after) submission.

Best of luck with the rest - I'm sure it'll all go fine.

Thank you!

I won't hear back for several weeks since my advisor has two defenses (and their accompanying completed dissertations) to deal with in the next two weeks, but within three I should have feedback. I have high hopes for good feedback though, much more so than anything I've turned in before.

On to the next one!
