Visa!

In December, I mailed my old and new passports to Durham. I received a letter from Croydon saying the government had received them. Today, I received a package from Sheffield with my passports in them: complete with my UK residency visa!

(How long we're actually staying in the UK depends on what jobs we get where; but it's reassuring to know that I can stay with no further paperwork if we end up doing so.)

Thank you! I already had indefinite leave to remain, but it feels so much more permanent having a visa that says things like "residency" and "settlement" on it, and doesn't include C.'s name on it at all.

congrats
That's great. :) Can you clarify for me the difference between the ILR you already had and the new visa?

Re: congrats
I'm a little fuzzy on what the differences are. It's as if my status has stayed the same, but I have a different visa now.

Old visa: Titled "Entry Clearance"
New visa: Titled "Residence Permit"

Old visa: Specified that the visa was for "Settlement to join/accompany partner" and named C. by name
New visa: No limitations listed.

Old visa: Expired when my passport expired.
New visa: Says it's valid indefinitely.

Either way, however, I still had indefinite leave to remain from the point I got the first visa. I only had to get a new visa because my passport was going to expire.

Usefulmost of all, having my passport back means it's legal for me to leave the UK again! (Which seems ironic, given my visa allows me to stay.)

I have a new passport too - they are such funny things when they are new, all shiny and unbent, and so skinny they don't quite seem real.

mabrouk 3aleiki on the permanent residency! if you feel like a regional excursion, Beirut is just one BMED flight away :-).
