Harp rental question

Dear UK Harpists and those who know them,

A Canadian friend of mine will likely be in Cambridge (UK) for a term next academic year and is looking to rent a harp for the period. My memory is that she plays something like a 32-string single-strung folk harp, but she's probably fairly flexible about quite what she rents. Any recommendations?

Not so many resources for harps or their rental in the UK as you might expect, the first place I thought of was Pilgrim Harps who do rental (and are wonderfully helpful people), and then there's Morley harps.

Thank you for the recommendations. Pilgrim Harps sounds very promising - especially since they rent by the month. It's not local, but we can probably help her transport it if she doesn't want to drive in the UK. (I can't remember if she has before. She's intrepid, so it wouldn't surprise me, but, like most people, she's usually used trains in the past.)

I'm not a harpist, but I live in Cambridge, so I gave a couple of Cambridge music shops a ring, and if your friend contacts Robin at Miller Music/Ken Stevens Music (tel: 01223 367758, ask for Robin, or email: robin@kenstevens.co.uk ), he is apparently the person to talk to about renting harps in Cambridge!

The only proviso he gave is that they generally rent out harps for a minimum of 6 months, but he has a smaller, ex-rental 22-string folk harp that he might be able to do a shorter rental deal on, if that would be sufficient for her.

The other music shop gave me some phone numbers of London-based harp rental places, if she has no success there:

Salvi: 0207 928 8451
Munson and Harbour: 0207 267 1610
Hobgoblin: 0207 323 9040 (this shop specializes in folk instruments)

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much! It's not only helpful, it's very pro-active of you. I'll pass on the details to my friend. It certainly would be more convenient for her to rent locally.

It's such a small town - one quick investigatory phone call and the next thing you know you're talking to the Harp Man (!). I hope she finds exactly what she needs and that she enjoys her stay here.

Ah, I was thinking that they might be of some use - I've never been in, but I pass by frequently.
