Trend-spotting

Dear People living in the UK:

Have you had a milk shake or sweet shop open up near you recently? I'd be interested to hear about it if so. Based on this week's evidence, it might be a real trend.

Within the last few months, one milk shake café/diner, one sweet shop, and now one milk shake/candy shop have opened up near where I live. I might think it a local fluke, but when I was in Canterbury on Thursday, I noticed a new shop on the High Street since the last time I was there, a few months earlier. It too is a shake shop.

There's a sweet shop that's opened up fairly recently on Chingford's Station Road, although I haven't noticed any shake shops. Perhaps we are returning to the days of the milk bar.

There's a new Olde English type sweet shop opened in Northwich in the last year or so. I don't know if it serves milkshakes, I've never been in, but it does sell whippy ice cream and sweets out of jars.

I feel duty bound to say, no, it's on St George Street, having been corrected about the High Street this week... It wasn't there Monday when we went to Starbucks.

There was a shake shop on ... Burgate or possibly Sun St. Not sure if still there.

One opened near the station in Leytonstone fairly recently - not sure when, but less than a year ago. It's an independent one, not a chain.

Bath has a Shakeaway (or did last time I was there), but that goes back to 2003-ish.

There are a couple in Liverpool in the L1 development. One seems to be an independent, the other is a chain though it looks like it's changed its name since I was last there. Another had opened a year or so ago, but I don't know if it's still around.

A milkshake shop (I think it's a chain - "shakeabout", something like that) opened just under a year ago in Ilford's shopping centre. It seems to be popular with schoolchildren.

Barking's relatively recently opened new shopping centre has a milkshake/smoothie bar in its main atrium.
